Hi, I’m Brian, the guy that’s working with Scott to put this comic together. I felt it was time for the masses (or at least the two or three of you that are checking out this blog) to hear from me.
The way I see it is that Scott is pretty much covering all the details about the comic so that leaves me free to do the drunken rambling. And oh how I love to drink and ramble. But not necessarily in that order.
One thing I will say about the comic (because although Scott said he mentioned it in his blog I don’t see it) is that we decided on a name for it. Its called…. are you ready for this?… THE SOUND. Pretty catchy huh?
Now let me tell you a little bit about how Scott and I met.
It was 1991. We were seventeen years old…. and we hated each other instantly. Every time we saw each other it was a fight waiting to happen. Then one night…. Scott had a party at his house. A mutual friend of ours dragged me along to the party with her. I grudgingly went, prepared for the worst. But something amazing happened. Scott and I finally talked to each other and realized that we liked a lot of the same things, had a lot of the same ideas, shared a lot of the same goals.
And do you know what?… Because of that night a lot of our shared goals have been accomplished. At that time neither of us knew how to play an instrument and since then we’ve been in six bands together. Most of them VERY short lived but whatever.
We also (honest to God) had a sword fight that night. I still have the scars to prove it.
And now we are finally working on a comic together.
What started out as two young, dumb assholes became a lifelong friendship. So think about that the next time you hate someone.

One of the myriad reasons that I haven’t finished more of this first comic is that my attention is split between comics & music. Way back when, in 1990 or so, I started playing music and really loved the immediate satisfaction it gave: pluck a string, hear a noise. This was awesome! Previously drawing had been my main hobby/addiction/whatever-particularly drawing comic book style stuff. So, the years went by and I neglected my comic drawing, only to wake up one day (with a sore back) and realize I was in my thirties and had totally given up on my old dream of drawing & writing comics. In the meantime, most of my life had come to revolve around music. It still does, to a large extent. A lot of my free time is spent playing and recording music. It is in the recording process that I found a similarity to drawing comics. One has the idea, then “sketches it out”, then records basic tracks of drums, guitar, whatever and proceeds to refine and build up from there. This is not unlike going from thumbnail sketches to pencils, to inks, to colors, lettering, etc. They are both very time consuming as well. I’m sure that I’ll write more about these twin hobbies of mine as time goes on, especially considering that music plays a role in this first full length comci that I’m working on.

I “turned in” the first few pages to Brian to look over and give his critiques, etc. and am now waiting for the next batch of scripts for pages. In the meantime, I took a stab at coloring the first page, since I had scanned it in to post it anyway. Here it is. I think it really points to us having to get someone who knows what they’re doing to color the thing.
