Dashed dreams.

Like Scott said in his blog, We won’t have the printed, for real deal, comic ready for the Comic Geek Speak Super Show. It’s a shame. Who ever heard of an independent comic company being behind schedule?

However….. We wont let a little thingĀ  like not actually having a comic to sell stop us from going to the convention. We’re printing out “preview” copies to bring with us. At least our table will look nice, thanks to Stefano’s work on some promo artwork that we will have.

We’re also bringing some of Scott’s and Stefano’s original pages to sell. Trust me, you want to get your hands on these.

The good news is that we have been confirmed for a table at the APE convention and “From Here to There” will definitely be printed and ready to go by then.

Like Scott said, we are working on a new project with Stefano and we could not be happier to work with him again. This guy is the best of the best.

We’re also bringing back the amazing talent of Marc Jameson, who will be doing the artwork for the one shot comic that I’ve been working on. I’m pleased and proud to be working on this with him. I’m glad we got a hold of him before he got snatched up by one of the big companies.

Scott and I are still working on “THE SOUND” and Scott also has another project in mind that he will be working on. We are also starting to put “FROM HERE TO THERE” #2 together. So don’t worry, There’s gonna be plenty of comics to chose from in the near future. Although, we hope you don’t chose just one comic, we want you to chose them all.

Excitement & Disappointment

So, we’re about to leave for the Comic Geek Speak Super Show 2008, which was supposed to be where “From Here to There” debuted. I say “supposed to”, because I talked to the printers yesterday and the book has been delayed. It won’t ship until the day after the Super Show. We are bummed. It’s going to be really sad to hang out at our table at the show, with only some photocopied “preview” copies to show for all the work we did this summer. I know it is a familiar story in the independent comics scene, but it still sucks. I can’t help but feel that, despite how hard we worked, if we had just worked a little harder (17 hour days instead of 16?) that we would have the books in our hot little hands already and be stoked.

That being said, we are excited because we just sent off a contract to artist Stefano Cardoselli for a 32 page one shot that he is writing and drawing titled “Pieces”. Hopefully he’ll be signing that this weekend and getting to work on the story. It’s going to be a suspense/horror story in the vein of movies like “Se7en” and “Saw”. We’re really looking forward to it. Stefano was a joy to work with on “From Here to There”. I’m planning to track down all his work from Heavy Metal, and you should too.

I’m hard at work, revising “The Sound”. It’s coming along nicely. I’ve settled into a groove. The style is a little more cartoony than I first thought, but I’m starting to think that that is my natural style. I’ve figured out the fastest way for me to work is to do pencils in revers on the back of the page, so I can be messy with the pencils (my pencils are super “sketchy”) and then just ink on a lightbox. I’m skipping tightening up the pencils before inking, which is cutting out a good amount of time.

Zombie Blog

I feel like I have turned into a zombie.

I’m inarticulate, shuffling around, and have a strong hankering for brains.

In actuality, we’ve finished our first book, “From Here to There”. All it took was multiple 12 to 16 hour days in front of the computer, lettering, laying out, and at the drawing table. Totally worth it. I’m now waiting for a preview from the printers, and sweating that we’ll have copies at our first convention, coming up in a few weeks. It’s going to be really sad if we did all that work, trying to make a deadline (which we missed by 9 days, no further comment) only to be empty-handed at the con.

Anyway, I’m now back at the drawing table, since there’s no time to waste on “The Sound”. Here’s page one, version 2.0

The Sound, page 1. (2.0)

Free at last…

We did it. We actually did it. “From Here To There” is at the printers as we speak. I guess as you read this is more accurate. I don’t care….. either way we’re DONE. You know what I’m doing right now????…. I’m having one of those many beers I said I would (more to come).

I’ve never worked so hard in my life, but you know what? I’ve never been so happy about working so hard. All those 16 hour days have finally paid off. Silly me, I thought that after I wrote my story I was done. That would have been the case if I was just a writer, but I’mĀ  also a partner in Resolution Comics. Guess what that means. That’s right, I’m not done ’till the comics done.

I never, ever, a thousand times no, thought that I would letter a comic. I mean come on, I don’t know how to do that shit. At least I didn’t. Scott - So, your gonna letter this right? Me - Uh, yeah sure. That’s pretty much how it went. Scott lettered one of the stories and I lettered the other three. Don’t get me wrong, Scott wasn’t slacking. He was taking care of a WHOLE LOT of shit that I still need to learn how to do, but I had to learn how to letter a comic in about a week. NOT easy. But I’m glad I did it.

So now I’ve taken a few days off and I’m ready to get back to work. You know what that means….. Thats right, It’s back to work on “The Sound”. I’m also working on a one shot comic. I don’t want to say too much about it yet but it’s gonna be good. You heard it here first.

I’d love to stay and talk more but my beer must have a hole in it ’cause it’s empty now. Thank God they come in 6’s.
